Let’s empower Sustainability-Driven Entrepreneurs(hip) – Final CASE Event

From 8.11.-10.11.2017 the CASE knowledge alliance met for the final project event at the Vienna University of Economics and Business (WU). About 70 guests from 10 different countries participated at the public event on 9.11 certified as an ecoevent and supported with a microfund by the Copernicus Alliance.

Stefan Pichler Vice Rector for Research (WU) welcomed all guests and Manuela Fried from the Austrian Federal Ministry of Education, Science and Research (Department Head European Higher Education Area) started the day with her input on “ERASMUS+ and Higher Education Policy – Added Value of University Business Cooperation”. In an inpsiring keynote we learned from Bettina Steinbrugger, CEO and Founder of the sustainability-driven company erdbeerwoche GmbH, how it is to be an sustainability-driven entrepreneur in practice. After a coffeebreak core results of the CASE project were presented and dicussed interactively with the audience in 4 different corners (See Posters).

Discussion on CASE results

Ilse Stockinger (Wiener Stadtwerke), Rudolf Dömötör (WU), Sara Landstroem (UNIDO), Theresa Imre (markta) and Marco Rieckmann (Vechta University) discussed in an interactive panel on “The Future of Learning for Sustainability-driven Entrepreneurship”. The panelists shared their views on important competencies and the creation of transdisciplinary learning environments. Finally a deeper insight into the CASE project was offerend in different workshops in the afternoon. The event ended with a networking session. Drinks and snacks were served from Brotpiloten, an austrian start-up offering catering services with bakery products which would have been thrown away.

Setting new horizons for collaboration at Hamburg Sustainable Development Summit

From 26-29.9.2017 Petra Biberhofer (WU Vienna) and Mara Bauer (Vechta University) from the CASE team participated at the Hamburg Sustainable Development Summit (HSDS) 2017, organized by the Center for a Sustainable University at the University of Hamburg. The summit focused on aspects of sustainable development at Higher Education Institutions and in particular on the contribution to the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) within education, research, governance, operation and outreach initiatives.

During the CASE workshop on “Sustainability-driven entrepreneurship – curriculum for new approaches to business development” we shared and discussed the CASE project milestones and future steps. The CASE team was inspired and proud being part of the broad international network platform for sustainability initiatives and projects. And definately the summits aim to set new horizons for collaborations, using innovative network formats and inviting sustainability researchers and agents to be part of the global community to foster sustainable development in Higher Education Institutions as well as in society in general was fulfilled.

CASE at the International Transdisciplinary Conference in Lüneburg

From 11.-15.9.2017 Michael Ambros (BOKU) and Petra Biberhofer (WU Vienna) from the CASE Team participated at the International Transdisciplinarity Conference in 2017 co-organized by Leuphana University Lüneburg, Germany and the Network for Transdisciplinary Research (td-net) of the Swiss Academies of Arts and Sciences. The overall objective of the conference was to strengthen communities of transdisciplinary research and education, and to create visibility for theoretical, empirical and transformative advances/results. In particular the conference focused on interculturality. Together with many inspiring participants we explored transdisciplinary research and education as intercultural endeavours concerning epistemologies, world-views, practices, and place-based differences. During our session on Sustainability-driven entrepreneurship – Curriculum for new approaches to business development we presented the CASE milestones such as our master curriculum and the current stage of the knowledge platform. As part of our session we had a very rich and inspiring discussion with the session participants and would like to thank the hosts for the great opportunity to share experiences about the CASE project.

CASE meets EARLI

Petra Biberhofer (WU Vienna) presented the CASE project during a poster session at the EARLI conference

From 27.8. until 2.9.2017 the 17th Biennial EARLI Conference was hosted by the University of Tampere, Finland on “Education in the crossroads of economy and politics – Role of research in the advancement of public good”. The European Association for Research on Learning and Instruction (EARLI) is an international, scientific community with the primary goal to support an active research culture in the field of learning and instruction. At the conference the CASE project was introduced by Petra Biberhofer (WU Vienna) who presented a poster focusing on how learning and collaborating within sustainability transitions can be fostered. Based on the the CASE results she highlighted transformative learning settings and collaboration formats in university-business cooperation.

CASE as good practice example of international educational research

Prof. Dr. Marco Rieckmann (University of Vechta, Germany) presented CASE knowledge alliance as good practice example

From the 17th until the 21st of July 2017 the 1st Vechta-Anhui Summer School of Teacher Education took place at the University of Vechta. Aim of the summer school was to found and establish a cross-national active network between scholars and researchers from the partner region Anhui (China) and Vechta (Germany) concerning teacher education. Prof. Dr. Marco Rieckmann (University of Vechta) presented the CASE knowledge alliance as a good practice example of international educational research. The aim of the summer school was to get a better understanding of the special functioning of teacher education based upon the predominant educational systems speakers from the mentioned countries gave insights into processes of learning and special kinds of teaching environments as well as used research methods in educational contexts.

The summer school was part of the project VANTE – Vechta-Anhui Network of Teacher Education which is financed by the International Cooperation Fund of the Ministry of Science and Culture of Lower Saxon. The project includes research and teaching visits, as well as student exchanges from Vechta to Anhui and vice versa.
